I know there is a difference and to start low and work up which I have been doing for 20+ years of handloading. Some manuals don't even specify either prefix in front of the powder. Ex.: 4895, 4350, 3064 etc. Does anybody REALLY know just how much difference there really is or is there enough for concern? I have been loading IMR for years and a buddy of mine might be getting close to get me to try the "H" powders because of their consistency in high/low temperature variations not to mention the same company now produces both in Canada. I like what I have read/heard.

Any insight or opinions?

IMR 4895 is pretty close to Hodgdon 4895, but they are not the same. 4350 is wildly different between the two companies, DO NOT mix that data up. I'm not sure about 3064, but I would err on the side of caution and not mix the two up.

I am having the IMR vs hodgdon delema. I have 16lbs of IMR 4198 and the recipe calls for H4198. I don't feel like dragging the chronny and loading a pile of test loads when I have shot the H4198. The cartidge is the 6X45 with the Barnes 62gr varmint grenade. Black Hills is now making a factory load and they shoot well through my gun. I have the bullets and do not have room for more powder. Any ideas on HVS IMR on the 4198?

I built a website dedicated to my OCD with the 6X45. www.6X45AR15.com
