wolf primers?

Hey guys/gals newbie here get ready, i bought some wolf primers because thats all the store had left. I have two reloading manuals that do not list this primer. What is a guy to do , just load everything like the manual says and substitute the primer they are using? This is for 308 and i do not plan to load hot, high, however its stated. Thank you very much. oh ill be using varget and 4064 (not together ofcourse)

the forum is not really dead, just give it some time.  Reloading Forum is a great little community that is growing at a nice rate.  Just be patient, folks might be busy w/ real life.

There is a very lengthy discussion of Wolf primers in the general reloading section.  That thread was started in November, and the "primers" discussion area did not exist at that time.  Perhaps everyone has already put their comments on the board. You might find out what you are wanting to know by looking there.  Or run a search on "primers" to locate it.

I have used Wolf primers (several thousand SP, LP and SRM and only had one hang fire and one defect. On the hang fire, I am not certain that I had seated the primer properly before charging and may have not have seated the anvil completely in the compound.  My one defect was an anvil that looked like it was not in the cup completely.  When I poked around on it, the anvil fell out.  So I threw that one away.  In comparison, I don't think I have ever had a defect in a Remington or Federal primer, and I have used several thousand of them also. 

I have experienced some shortages here in Houston, also.  But my reason for buying the Wolf the first time is that it was $10 cheaper than Federal and I thought, what the heck, give them a try.  There were times last year that it was wolf or no shooting, because not only were primers not on the shelves, neither was .45 acp ammunition.  At the gunshow last weekend, primers, powder and ammunition were all in good supply.  I still have some Wolf primers and will continue to use them for practice rounds.

I have used Wolf large rifle primers in my .243 cases.  They shoot fine.  They do seem to fit a bit tighter than Winchesters or CCI though.  They took a little more effort to seat them.
